Saadiyat Island is committed to sustainable actions all year around
We’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a spectacular ecosystem on Saadiyat Island. And because our natural environment is as fragile as it is beautiful, we’re also responsible for protecting it. That’s something we take very seriously.
Here, sustainable actions are more than just an annual event – they’re a daily commitment.
All our properties across the island are engaged in ongoing sustainability programs and activities, with extensive plans for future projects as well. Below is a small sample of how we’re leading sustainability in the UAE.
Many properties on Saadiyat Island have installed rooftop solar panels to contribute to energy production, lessening dependence on fossil fuels.
To reduce energy consumption, thermodynamic solar block systems are also being implemented, which use the surrounding temperature to generate hot water.
To encourage guest use of electric vehicles, resorts and properties across the island have installed EV charging stations in their car parks.
Our resorts have greatly improved waste segregation, allowing for a higher volume of general waste to be recycled.
This allows us all to reduce the impact of landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
In the summer nesting months, we invite resort guests and community groups to take part in turtle patrols, monitoring Saadiyat beach for turtle nesting activity.
This is part of the island-wide initiative to introduce, educate and include our guests in sustainability activities.
Several resorts across the island have completely eliminated the use of plastic straws – and replaced plastic in many other food and drink packaging items as well.
Most restaurants now offer straws made from biodegradable and recycled materials, such as paper.
Our properties are implementing a range of approaches to fully eliminate plastic water bottles from the island.
Through local partners or water plants within the resort, guests are provided filtered still and sparkling water in either glass bottles or reusable sports bottles.
All our resorts have replaced plastic-packaged bathroom amenities, such as hand soap, with biodegradable alternatives.
One innovative and widely adopted solution is cornstarch-based.
