Popular spa treatments, simplified

Hammam

Popular in Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa, Hammams are traditional bathhouses, where you progress from colder to hotter rooms, before being scrubbed with the traditional black soap, followed by a wash and massage. Saadiyat Island’s spas are famed for their luxury Hammams in Abu Dhabi.

Thai massage

Based on ancient principles, this UNESCO-listed science involves pressing and stretching the body to a set rhythm. Traditional Thai massages don’t use oil but some contemporary versions may. The client’s body may be adjusted into yogic positions during the course of the massage, and the masseur or masseuse is usually well-versed in meditation. Choose from a range of spa options to enjoy a Thai massage at Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi.

Balinese Massage

This age-old system has multiple cultural influences from India and Asia and combines deep tissue massage with stretches, aromatherapy, acupressure, and reflexology, focusing on the lymphatic system and blood circulation.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest alternative medical systems that takes a holistic approach to healing, by reducing stresses and imbalances within the body. Ayurvedic treatments are generally customized to suit individuals, and the massages use therapeutic herbal oils as well as other materials like milk, rice and so on.

Hot stone therapy

In this treatment, heated rocks of basalt are placed on the problem areas in your body and gently massaged by an expert massage therapist. The rocks, which have high iron content, are usually smooth and round and help to reduce inflammation, muscle pain and stress.

Body wraps

In a typical body wrap treatment, the body is slathered with an oil, lotion, cream or mud and wrapped in plastic or cloth to allow for greater absorption. The wrap also creates a heating effect which induces sweating, opens pores and increases circulation. There are many types of wraps – detoxifying, hydrating, stress relief and more.
