Saadiyat Island - the jewel in Abu Dhabi’s crown
Create memories to last a lifetime when you visit Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. Amid captivating natural surroundings, relax on pristine white sandy beaches and discover a vibrant hub of art, culture and entertainment, overlooking the glittering turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf.
Situated just ten minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi and 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport, Saadiyat Island is home to five star hotels and luxury villas, high-end restaurants, tourist attractions and golf courses. Saadiyat Island is also a major cultural destination and will host one of the world’s largest concentrations of museums and galleries. Noteworthy among these is the prized Louvre Abu Dhabi which showcases the best from humanity and culture worldwide in a unique Jean Nouvel-designed architectural setting.
Situated at the heart of the island’s cultural district, Manarat Al Saadiyat takes centre stage bringing Saadiyat’s vision to life through digital technology and multimedia content. Through the interactive, permanently open-to-the-public exhibition entitled “The Saadiyat Story”, visitors can learn about the history and cultural vision behind the island. Meaning “place of enlightenment”, Manarat Al Saadiyat not only acts as the island’s visitors’ centre, but also as a window to the city’s flourishing cultural scene, with exhibitions, performances, theatre workshops, artists’ studios, film screenings and more.
Next door, the iconic UAE Pavilion rises up in the form of a striking dune-shaped structure. Designed for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 by Foster + Partners, it was transported piece by piece to Saadiyat Island from Shanghai, where it had welcomed almost two million visitors to the UAE’s national exhibition during the World Expo 2010.
